On May the 3rd, it was reviewed that the Osaka Prefecture Police Toyonaka Department had arrested the suspect Soichi Iwamoto (37), who was a flood control mechanic in Suita City, Osaka Prefecture and had been living with the boy's mother, on a charge of causing injury to the boy's brain by shaking him intensely in an apartment complex in Toyonaka City in September of 2005. The boy continues to suffer serious aftereffects and is under protection in an institution.

It is alleged that at about 1pm of September 6th in 2005, the suspect committed violence against the boy by shaking him intensely at his home in Hozan-cho, Toyonaka City, resulting in serious injuries including subdural hematoma. The suspect Iwamoto had already been arrested and prosecuted last March.

According to the Police, it had been difficult at that time to ascertain Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS) in which infants whose necks have not stabilized are shaken intensely causing brain injury. But the police decided to arrest the suspect after receiving the opinion of a doctor.
