Baby shaken and suffers temporary serious condition
Hyogo Prefectural Police arrested a man from the house hold on suspicion of causing serious injury

On February 1st, Hyogo Prefectural Police Shikama Station arrested the suspect Masahiro Ohara (38, temporary employee, Kamitakino, Kato City, Hyogo Prefecture) on suspicion of causing serious injury to his former wife's son (5 month-old baby) after shaking the baby at the time they were living together. The suspect Ohara confessed that he had lifted the baby by both hands to stop him crying and shaken him back and forth. Police say that he is not related to the baby.

The alleged crime occurred between March 14th and 18th of last year. The suspect shook the baby several times because he was angry at the baby who did not stop crying, causing serious injuries including acute subdural hemorrhage and cerebral contusion.

According to the Police, the former wife noticed the unusual condition of the baby on March 19, the same year and had a medical examination. Because his body had the multiple bruises, the hospital informed it to the Prefecture Himeji Child Welfare Center and the Prefectural Police and the abuse was uncovered. The Police say that the baby was discharged from hospital approximately one month later, and it is recovering.

The suspect Ohara and his former wife were married in 2004. However, Police say that they had still been living together in Himeji City after divorcing in 2009.
