A 19-year-old youth was arrested in Kobe on suspicion of having abused a 5-years-old girl who was the daughter of his common law wife.

On May 25th, the Hyogo Prefecture Fukiai Precinct Police arrested the unemployed youth (19) from Chuo-ku, Kobe City, on suspicion of violence causing serious injury such as breaking the rib of the 5-years-old girl who was the daughter of his common law wife (31). Saying "I didn't this time though I assaulted her last month", the youth is denying the charges.
It is alleged that the suspect hit and kick the girl in the middle of this month in their apartment, causing injuries which required two or three weeks for recovery.
According to the same police station, the youth had been cohabiting with four children (2-8 years old) of his common law wife from March this year. When his wife took her second daughter to the hospital on the 19th this month claiming she was in bad health, the doctor recognized the abuse and reported it to the Child Guidance Center in the same city.
