Osaka District Court handed down a sentence of 3 years and 2 months for man, who caused injury to boy's brain by shaking him intensely

On June 4th, the trial of defendant Soichi Iwamoto (37), who is a flood control mechanic, was held in Osaka District Court. He caused injury to the 3-months-old baby's brain by shaking him intensely in Toyonaka city of Osaka Prefecture in 2005. Judge Wada sentenced him to three-years and two-months of prison, saying that it was a crime motivated by hatred, while the prosecutor had demanded a four year sentence.

Judge Wada pointed out in his statement reason "He had left the baby for a long time without calling an ambulance because he was afraid the crime would be detected. It was selfish and irresponsible and the injury to the child is very serious and there is no prospect for recovery in the future".

According to the judgment, at about 1pm on September 6th in 2005, he committed violence against the boy by shaking him intensely at his home in Toyonaka city of Osaka Prefecture resulting in serious injuries including subdural hematoma.
